ANS. “Sextortion usually involves the perpetrators first befriending a victim via social media or online platforms, then obtaining private or objectionable photos/videos, and later threatening and blackmailing the victim.”

Tinku is a simple 21-year-old boy from a small town who came to Delhi a few years ago for a job. Anjali is an 18-year-old girl who studies in a small town, but she is a very modern, smart, and also a social media enthusiast.
Initially, they met on Snapchat. They talked about projects, then college, and then their respective lives. Anjali would send Tinku her daily snaps — sometimes from the library, sometimes from the cafeteria, sometimes with her pet cat. Tinku would also send her his snaps every day.
The little Snapchat streaks created a unique bond between the two. Both of them started enjoying each other's talks, likes and dislikes. One day Tinku asked Anjali, "Do you want more than friendship from me?" Anjali blushed, but she said honestly, “Yes, I enjoy your company a lot.” Both of them decided to turn their friendship into a beautiful relationship.
The very next day, on WhatsApp Tinku asked Anjali if she had another boyfriend, Anjali said no. Then to reassure her, Tinku asked Anjali to show her contact list on video call and secretly recorded it. Thereafter, both of them did xxxxxx together on a video call which was secretly recorded by Tinku (without a consent of Anjali).
Now Tinku and Anjali's life had become even more colorful. They used to share every small and big thing on the phone. Their friendship which started from Snapchat had now turned into true love. One day, suddenly Tinku asked Anjali to send money online, which Anjali refused. After this, Tinku threatened her that if she did not send the money, then he would send her private video to her relatives. Seeing Tinku turning from a lover to a blackmailer, Anjali got angry and said you are a nasty person, “I will complain against you in cybercrime and send you to jail.”
But after this incident, Anjali was completely broken, and she even thought of suicide. Then she contacted ODFC Cyber Helpdesk and submitted digital evidence (like chats screenshot, photos, videos, call recordings). ODFC Community Helpdesk gave her free counseling and also advised Tinku not to harass her.
